Alcohol Policy Information System

The Alcohol Policy Information System provides information on alcohol-related Federal and State policies. It is sponsored by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism as a tool for researchers.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

CDC addresses fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) through the activities of its FAS program, which focuses on prevention. CDC also hosts the National Task Force on FAS/Fetal Alcohol Effect. In addition, diagnostic guidelines are now available online in PDF format.

Computer Retrieval of Information on Scientific Projects (CRISP)

CRISP is a searchable database of federally funded biomedical research projects, including projects related to fetal alcohol syndrome and effects of alcohol on the fetus.

Congressional Caucus on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders

The mission of the Congressional Caucus on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders is to educate Members of the United States House of Representatives on issues relevant to preventing fetal alcohol spectrum disorders and increasing the quality of life for those currently living with these debilitating birth defects.

Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB)

Within the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, the Division of Perinatal Systems and Women's Health conducts activities related to FAS prevention.

Indian Health Service (IHS)

The Indian Health Service Behavioral Health Program strives to eliminate alcoholism and other drug dependencies and improve the health care of American Indians and Alaska Natives.

Interagency Coordinating Committee on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (ICCFAS)

ICCFAS is hosted by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. It includes representatives from various branches of the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Departments of Education and Justice. ICCFAS members work to exchange information and coordinate Federal FAS strategies and programs.

National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)

NIAAA supports research to improve diagnosis and assessment of impairment and disability and to develop tools to enhance academic and daily living skills. Areas of research include screening, diagnosis, and treatment of FASD.

National Task Force on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Fetal Alcohol Effect

The National Task Force on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Fetal Alcohol Effect is hosted by CDC. The Task Force fosters coordination of activities related to FASD among government agencies, academic bodies, and community groups.

American Pregnancy Association

The American Pregnancy Association is a national health organization committed to promoting reproductive and pregnancy wellness through education, research, advocacy and community awareness.

Child Welfare League of America (CWLA)

CWLA is an association of almost 1,200 agencies that provide services to at-risk children and families, including kinship care, juvenile justice, foster care, adoption, youth development, residential care, day care, family-centered practice, and adolescent pregnancy prevention.

March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation

March of Dimes researchers, volunteers, educators, outreach workers, and advocates work together to address prematurity, birth defects, and low birthweight.

National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACoA)

The mission of the NACoA is to advocate for all children and families affected by alcoholism and other drug dependencies. They help kids hurt by parental alcohol and drug use by working to raise public awareness; providing leadership in public policy at the national, state, and local levels; advocating for appropriate, effective and accessible education and prevention services; and facilitating and advancing professional knowledge and understanding.

National Association of Social Workers (NASW)

NASW is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world. NASW works to enhance the professional development of its members, create and maintain professional standards, and advance sound social policies.

National Birth Defects Prevention Network (NBDPN)

NBDPN is a group of individuals involved in birth defects surveillance, research, and prevention. The State directory provides contact and program information, including FASD surveillance information.

National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD)

NCADD fights the stigma and the disease of alcoholism and other drug addictions. Activities include community prevention and education, advocacy, and resource centers.

National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB)

HMHB promotes public awareness and education about prenatal health, develops networks for sharing information, and distributes public and professional education materials.

National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS)

NOFAS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating alcohol-related birth defects and improving the quality of life for individuals with FASD and their families.

Organization of Teratology Information Services (OTIS)

Teratology Information Services (TIS) are comprehensive resources for medical consultation on prenatal exposures to drugs, medications, chemicals, and other substances. TIS interpret information regarding reproductive risks into risk assessments that are communicated to individuals and health care providers.

The Arc of the United States

The Arc is the national organization of and for people with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities and their families.

Alaska Office of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

Alaska's FAS project is a comprehensive, integrated effort encompassing FASD prevention, screening, diagnosis, and services.

Michigan Department of Community Health Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Program

NOFAS Washington

Ohio's FASD Initiative FASD Overview

Texas Office for Prevention of Developmental Disabilities (TOPDD) Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Consortium

TOPDD coordinates activity among the many State and private agencies that work to prevent developmental disabilities. TOPDD appointed the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Consortium to address public awareness and education about fetal alcohol syndrome.

Washington State FAS Interagency Workgroup (FASIAWG)

FASIAWG was established in 1995 to coordinate and enhance Washington State FASD screening, diagnosis, intervention, prevention, surveillance, and training programs. FASIAWG includes representatives from the Department of Social and Health Services, Department of Health, Department of Corrections, Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, Governor's Office of Indian Affairs, FAS Diagnostic and Prevention Network, Fetal Alcohol and Drug Unit, March of Dimes, FAS Family Resource Institute, and NOFAS Washington.

FAS Community Resource Center

The FAS Community Resource Center offers resources related to FASD, such as support groups for families, playgroups for children with FASD, advocacy, materials and training for families and professionals, consultation, and collaboration with community organizations.

FASD Awareness Day

FASD Awareness Day is observed each year on September 9 to raise awareness in every community about fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). This site provides ideas and information on planning FASD Awareness Day activities.

FASLink

FASlink is the Canadian Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Internet support, information, advocacy, and discussion forum. FASlink maintains a discussion listserv serving hundreds of families and professionals across Canada and in other countries.

Journal of FAS International

This is the only journal devoted solely to fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. It publishes peer-reviewed original papers, as well as case reports, reviews, and critical assessments of papers from other publications. Its editorial board includes noted Canadian and U.S. researchers and clinicians.

National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI)

NCADI is operated by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. It has one of the largest repositories of alcohol and drug information in the world and offers access to current literature, research reports, and educational resources. NCADI also has a toll-free line. Their online catalog includes an FASD page.

National Database of FAS and Substance Use During Pregnancy Resources (Canada)

This is a database of Canadian resources related to prevention, intervention, and identification of fetal alcohol syndrome and other substances that can harm fetal development.

Online Clinic

The Online Clinic has information on books, Web sites, and other resources and patient referrals. Various tools are available, including an online calculator for estimating costs of FASD in your community.

Alberta Children's Services

This Web site has information on provincial government action, reasons provincial residents should be concerned, demonstration projects, general resources, local FASD programs, fact sheets, publications, and links to other FASD organizations.

Australian National Organisation for Foetal Alcohol Syndrome and Related Disorders (NOFASARD)

This site provides brochures and reports on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, including information specific to Australia.

Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse

This site includes an overview of FASD and links to recommended readings and resources.

Canadian Northwest FASD Partnership

This is a partnership site for seven Canadian provinces that work on FASD prevention, intervention, care, and support. It includes highlights of campaigns and initiatives, FASD events, regional researchers, and messages from all seven provincial Premiers.

FASD Northwest

This site is for a community action circle for northwestern Ontario, Canada, that includes sections on FASD facts, alcohol and pregnancy, service providers, resources, events, news, and links.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders and the Justice System

The FASD Ontario Justice Committee (members of the FASD Stakeholders of Ontario) has developed this website with funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada, as a resource for justice system professionals and others who are grappling to understand FASD. We hope that this website will put case law, legal resources, background information, and practical tips close at hand. We also hope that it will offer strategies for dealing with the unique problems presented by offenders, victims and witnesses with FASD in compassionate, fair and effective ways.

Fetal Alcohol Support Ireland

FAS Ireland is dedicated to raising awareness about FASD, helping to reduce the incidence of FASD, and supporting families, caregivers, and individuals affected by FASD.

Fetal Alcohol Support Trust (F.A.S.T.)

Netherlands Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Foundation

The Netherlands FAS Foundation provides information about FAS to the public, provides information about FAS and support to families and caregivers, brings concerns to the attention of the government, institutions, and companies, and promotes scientific research. The site is available in Dutch (Nederlands).

Provincial Outreach Program for FASD

The mandate of the Provincial Outreach Program for FASD is to increase teachers' capacity to meet the educational needs of students with an FASD. Their goals include building district capacity to serve students in their home school districts, facilitating the sharing of best practices, developing online capacity, and serving as a liaison to government agencies.

Region 6 FASD Committee

This site includes a compilation of resources and links to services in Region 6 and across Canada. Region 6 (also known as the Capital Region) includes Edmonton, St. Albert, Mornville, Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc, Devon, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and many other smaller communities. The Region 6 FASD Steering Committee is made up of members from many different service organizations and government departments.

The Justice Project: Victims and Witnesses with FASD in the Justice System

This site is a working tool developed to assist in the collection and sharing of information about victims/witnesses affected with FASD who are involved with police, courts and support workers.

The FAS/E Support Network of British Columbia provides information, support, and education for families, professionals, and the community on prevention and intervention for FASD.

FASD Parent Support

This Web site was created for Alaskan families of children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. It provides information about resources for individuals and families affected by FASD. The site has a listserv.

FASEout Training Modules (FASEout) Canadian Institute of Child Health (CICH)

FASEout Training Modules is part of the Canadian Institute of Child Health. This site provides PowerPoint training modules used in the FASEout Project and are provided for your use in training. FASEout, presentations have speaking notes and we encourage you to adapt this material for your own use. Additional presentations are included for informational purposes only. FASworld

FASworld is an international alliance of parents and professionals dedicated to the prevention of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. FASworld Canada works with the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Community Resource Center in Tucson to coordinate work in worldwide awareness.

Iceberg is a quarterly international educational newsletter published by the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Information Service, a parent/professional partnership.

Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD)

AUCD (formerly the American Association of University Affiliated Programs for Persons with Developmental Disabilities) is a nonprofit organization that promotes and supports the national network of university centers on disabilities.

Center on Alcoholism, Substance Abuse, and Addictions, University of New Mexico (CASAA)

CASAA conducts various research projects, including projects related to FASD. In addition, CASAA supports the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Prevention Project, which coordinates public education campaigns, community projects, and social change and advocacy efforts.

Collaborative Initiative on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (CIFASD)

The purpose of this consortium is to inform and develop effective interventions and treatment approaches for FASD, through multidisciplinary research involving basic, behavioral and clinical investigators and projects. Research Society on Alcoholism Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Study Group (RSoA)

The FAS Study Group's members include approximately 150 clinicians and researchers. The group focuses on the etiology of fetal alcohol syndrome, characteristics of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD), and ways to improve the lives of children with FASD.

Washington State Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Diagnostic and Prevention Network (FAS DPN)

FAS DPN is a network of five community-based clinics linked by the core clinic at the Center on Human Development and Disability at the University of Washington in Seattle. The mission of the FAS DPN is prevention of FAS through screening, diagnosis, intervention, training, education, and research.
